Cristian Muñoz ‘s Bio

Cristian Muñoz‘s artistic career started when he was still a teenager. During the years of the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in his native country Chile, Cristian supported the student movement and the political struggle of that time as a student and as an artist, working in Ramona Parra’s muralist brigade and founding Brigada Renacer. His political murals are now part of several compilations on mural art in Chile and are part of private collections in Milwaukee and Chicago. During his years as an art student in Santiago, he participated in many collective exhibits and the creation of videos and documentaries that participated successfully in several short film festivals. One of his videos is in the collection of The Historical National Museum in Chile.

After arriving to the United States (Milwaukee) in 2007, Cristian was part of the show Emergent Latinos in Milwaukee at Walker Point Center for the Arts and the two artist show Memories of The Forgotten, Illuminate and Unwrapped Milwaukee at the Riverwest Artist Association. Cristian was also part of many installations for Day of the Dead at UWM, WPCA, Latino Arts and The Milwaukee Art Museum. He also assisted UW’ Milwaukee professor Raoul Deal in the multicultural exhibit Implosion in 2008 at UWM and participated in the Watershed project in 2010.

Since his arrival to The San Francisco Bay Area, he has committed his artistic work to the creation of backdrops for performances such at La Peña Cultural Center and The Serpent of the Four Seasons at the University of San Francisco´s Theater department. He is currently working on completing a series of murals in the Olohne Greenway, in Albany.
